Steps for Life Charity Walk for Threads of Life

More Information (91-5 CKPR is not responsible for external websites)

THUNDER BAY - If today is an average working day in Canada, three
workers won’t come home from their jobs, killed by hazards from
heights to equipment to toxic dust. Thousands more will be injured,
and all these tragedies cause waves of grief and difficulty for families,
friends, co-workers and the wider community.

On May 4 our community will come together to honour those changed
lives and prevent future tragedies. Steps for Life-Walking for Families of Workplace Tragedy is
an annual event to boost awareness of workplace tragedy and raise funds for Threads of Life, a
national charity. Threads of Life provides programs and services for workers and families
affected by work-related deaths, serious injuries and occupational disease.

Bob Quarrell is one of those individuals. Bob’s son Tyler died when he was crushed by an 800-
pound slab of marble in September 2012. He is the spokesperson for Steps for Life in Thunder
Bay.

“I am the face of workplace tragedy!” Bob says. “As a spokesperson for Threads of Life I get the
opportunity to not only share my family's tragedy but also to impress upon us all that our
children are not invincible! It is imperative that we teach our children the importance of
working safely, of putting health and safety before all else. I am honored to join in the Thunder
Bay Steps for Life walk in memory of my son and to help raise the awareness of the need to
always work safely.”

Steps for Life is a fun 5-km walk that brings together those affected by workplace tragedies and
the people and organizations committed to preventing them. Steps for Life-Thunder Bay will
take place at Carpenters & Joiners Local 1669 building, 1306 Capital Way on Sunday, May 4,
2025. To register or learn more, visit www.stepsforlife.ca.

Steps for Life-Thunder Bay is in its 11th year. Local volunteers, businesses and families have
raised more than $85,000 to provide families with peer support, information, and the chance to
share their stories to create safer workplaces. Join Thunder Bay in the national movement for
prevention! Register for Steps for Life today.
